Many businesses will be closed on the 21st and will not reopen again until January 2nd. We are all looking forward to spending time with our friends and families over the break and leaving work behind for a couple of weeks. However, sometimes in the hurry to leave work we forget to manage some of the cleaning tasks beforehand. If you manage your cleaning yourself or you cleaning team has already been and will not be returning until January 2nd, here are our tips to making the work place pleasant to return to in the New Year.
Empty the fridge
So many people forget to empty the fridge at work before the holidays and returning to work after two weeks to mouldy food in the fridge is never nice. Send an email reminder to everyone and advise that anything left on the last day will be either thrown away or given to a food bank charity!
Empty the bins
This is usually covered by the cleaner but if the cleaner has been before the last day, nominate someone to empty the bins across the entire company. It is also worth considering nominating someone to come in and ensure the bins are accessible to the refuse collector over the next two weeks to ensure that they are no overflowing in January.
Cloths, mops and sponges
Dirty cloths can be a breeding ground for germs, we recommend taking them and washing them in the washing machine or if needed replace them. Start the new year with clean and hygienic tools.
Don’t put bleach in the sinks and toilets
It is very common for people to think that leaving bleach in the sink and toilet for a long period of time helps to rid germs. Whilst it will kill bacteria, bleach is a stripping agent so leaving it for any period of time can erode the surface it is left on. We recommend using specific toilet and sink cleaners instead.
Turn down your radiators but don’t turn them off
Turn your radiators on low or use the freeze prevention setting. If the temperatures drop below freezing it can cause your pipes to burst so we recommend that you keep them on low and have your heating to come on a timer. If we get freezing temperatures and the building is empty for 2 weeks without heat, you could also return to a damp environment in January.
Add some grit now
If the snow and ice land whilst you’re away there could be very icy conditions when you return. Add grit to the car park and front entrance on the last day, it will save you a job in the New Year and help to reduce the risk of slips, trips and fall too.
We hope you have found these tips useful and we hope you are able to enjoy the break. We would like to wish all our customers, suppliers and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
Everyone here at Crystal Clean Service, including #CliveTheCleaner are looking forward to seeing you all in 2019!
