Entering awards is a time consuming and sometimes stressful process. Over the years we have entered and won a number of awards and recently we were asked if it was worth it?
When choosing which awards to enter, there are many things to think about. Not all awards are worth it. Some events may portray themselves as credible organisations but end up being a big party with little or no real standards set for the event or the winners. Others can also be very expensive; some awards can cost ££££ to enter. You have to consider what you are trying to achieve. At Crystal Clean we do enter awards and we have found some of them to be very worthwhile. Before you get started think about the benefit it will have on your organisation and how it will help. If there is no obvious reason to enter it may be one to miss. Here’s some of our advice on what to consider: –
Focus your business plan
Entering a business award can help you to focus your business plans and start looking at where you are in the market place and who you are competing against. The awards themselves can help you to focus on how you can outshine the competition and this can very useful when planning the next stage of your business development.
Winning awards or even being nominated is a third-party endorsement of the achievements of you and your business. Being linked with known organisations can help to raise the profile of your company. We have entered awards with local press and Chamber organisations as well as industry sector awards like the Northern England & Excellence Award for Business Centre Cleaning. Being know both on a local level and also within the industry is a good combination.
Awards are also a recognition of hard work and this is a testament to the team around you. Their efforts have put the company in a position to be able to enter awards. Ensuring that the team are thanked as part of this process is vital. Crystal Clean would have never been recognised without such a dedicated team. It also true that award-winning businesses are appealing places to work, for both existing staff and potential new recruits.
Business Person of the Year
Hayley our MD was shortlisted for the Rotherham and Barnsley Chamber Business Awards for ‘Business Person of the Year’. The awards ceremony last week was a great night and Hayley said
“It is great to be shortlisted and although of course it’s disappointing not to win, I still feel really honoured to have been involved in such a big event. David Thackrah is a really worthy winner, in fact all of those in the category were great competition. Nights like this also provide great networking opportunities and that makes it all the more worthwhile”
So, if you’re considering entering awards we would recommend it. If you’re not sure where to start, why not get in touch and Hayley will give you some ideas.
